History
In 1985, brothers Richard and Danny Gardiner, both in their early 20’s started a company to manufacture their new machine design idea, that company later became known as U-Pack and the machine idea was the Shear-line die cutter. The brothers found a simple way to increase the operational speed of their machine, making it 50% faster than other companies similar machines. The Shear-line was an immediate success and went on to sell into 43 countries.

IP Lessons
Since that time many new innovations have emerged from U-Pack, however innovations need protecting which is something Richard admits he and his brother were a little slow to fully appreciate in the early years. Many of their designs have been copied by other companies and are now being reproduced in many different countries.
